TRAINING ON SOLAR POWERED WATER SUPPLY AND SANITATION SYSTEMS IN UGANDA
The District Technical Team and Councillors held a Meeting with a Team from the Ministry of Water and Environment (MWE) which received funding from the UK Export Finance (UKEF) to construct solar powered water supply and sanitation systems in Uganda in Districts with Low safe water coverage The MWE contracted Nexus Greens Limited (NGL) a UK renewable energy contractor to provide clean energy solutions for a period of three years under the rural water and sanitation program.
The purpose of the meeting was to inform the District team and councillors about their roles and responsibilities in the rural water and Sanitation project which included identifying the site with a big population and need for water and also a site with a water source preferably a borehole with enough water since their main role is to transfer water from one source to another. The key deliverables include construction of a Pump, Guard house with a Toilet, Water tanks, Stands, and distribution system.
The ongoing Project activities include pump testing of existing wells, Drilling boreholes in areas without water sources, sensitising community and political leaders, formation and training water committees since the project is all about safe and adequate water.
