AIDE Meeting at the District Headquarters.
Arise Integrated Development Efforts (AIDE) held a dialogue meeting with stakeholders at the District headquarters.
AIDE is a civil society organization with a vision of having a society in which women and vulnerable children are fully empowered, innovative and self dependant.
As part of fulfilling it's vision, it is implementing a project "Women in land governance" in Subcounties of kayunga, Busaana, Bbaale, kayonza and kangulumila.
The dialogue aimed at building women capacity in land governance , identified challenges and finding possible solutions.
Mr. Vincent Ahimbisibwe (DNRO) pointed out that land belongs to all citizens of Uganda as per the Constitution.
land can be owned as per different land tenure systems which include Mailo, freehold, leasehold and customery.
Athird of members on land management committees must be women.
He further advised land committees to empower women to own registered land.
A number of challenges were identified including, ignorance of the law, illiteracy, eviction, fraud,etc
Action plans included;
1. LLG's to budget for facilitation of land committees.
2. District to prioritize sensiting citizens on land matters.
3. AIDE to conduct sensitisation meetings at village level.
The DRDC thanked the NRM government for empowering NGOs to support the citizens. He further applauded AIDE for the project and advised women to educate their children since education is free.
He further urged the district leadership to senstise women in land governance since 80% of Ugandans depend on agriculture.
