KAYUNGA DISTRICT CEREBRATING THE WORLD WATER DAY
Kayunga District Joined the rest of the world in celebrating the World Water Day which was held at Gwero Village, Namayuge parish and Galiraya sub county under the theme "Accelerating Change To Solve Water and Sanitation Crisis. “The Asst Water Engineer Mr Luboya Paul gave statistics of safe water coverage to 77% in the District. He advised schools, families and communities to preserve fresh water through conserving the environment, regulating pollution, forest cover and good farming methods. He requested private partners to support water projects since Kayunga is a cattle corridor and everyone has a right to access clean water and sanitation around the globe.
The Principal Health Inspector Mr Osilon James Patrick highlighted the importance of sanitation were every household should own a latrine, rubbish pit, bathroom etc. He requested VHTS to identify households with all the sanitation requirements to be awarded and issue warning letters to all those without latrines. The District Area councillor Mr Kayiira Joel emphasised the importance of safe water and requested the residents to protect, maintain water sources and construct latrines. He thanked private partners for repairing boreholes in Galiraya and finally reminded youths about the existence of HIV and requested the married couples to be faithful to one another.
The Chief Guest Hajji Dumba Moses thanked the President for fulfilling his NRM manifesto of extension of Water to households. He advised the residents to guard the available water sources jealously since Kayunga is a cattle corridor with few water sources. He encouraged residents to always wash their hands with clean water and soap to prevent diseases like diarrhoea and dysentery. He also advised the VHTs to form safe water committees for proper supervision and maintenance of water sources.
