CRS stakeholders meeting at the District Headquarters.

Catholic Relief Services (CRS) in collaboration with partners, Vanex and Technoserve held a stakeholders orientation and training on ordinance implementation at the District headquarters.

 Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is implementing a vines project aimed at transforming Uganda's Vanilla sector into the leading producer of high quality vanilla in the world.

 The District roles will include, enforce harvest dates, protect vanilla farmers, prevent early harvesting, address issues of child labour and thefty, 

 Objectives of the vanilla ordinance include;

 1. Improve quality of vanilla. 

 2. Improve marketing of vanilla 

 

3. Safeguard farmers incomes

 

4. Strengthening the vanilla sector.

 

Governance of vanilla 

1. Every Subcounty shall designate a vanilla buying and selling center.

 2. Vanilla growers shall only sell the vanilla to licenced buyers.

 3. Vanilla buyers shall record the name of seller, quantity and time bought.

 4. Vanilla vines must be stored in pallets and tarpaulin.

 5. Vanilla stores must be cemented with good sanitation around.

 6. Anyone in vanilla business must have a license. 

 8. Vanilla farmers should form association at parish or Subcounty level.

 9. Vanilla should be sold btn 7:30 am to 8:00 pm on working days and 9:00am to 1:00 pm on weekends.

 Mr. Godfrey from CRC Requested the District leadership to budget for the vanilla ordinance for proper monitoring.

 The RDC called for collective responsibility of all stakeholders since vanilla is very expensive.

 She pledged her commitment to work with them.
