Office of the PM and GAIN for an entry meeting at Kayunga District.
A team from Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) in conjunction with the Office of the Prime Minister held an inception meeting on " vegetables for all" and Work Force Nutrition (WFN) project in kayunga District.
The aim of the meeting was to discuss project details and implementation modalities.
The focus vegetables include tomatoes, carrots, onions, eggplants, pepper, pumpkins, spinach, nakati,doddo, bugga etc.
The engagement and liaison advisor Mr Asimwe Charles said in Uganda 90% of the population can not afford a nutritious diet.
This diet has been left to the poor while the rich and educated feast on fatty foods resulting in obesity and over weight.
He advised the team to always balance nutrition with care since they move hand in hand.
The WFN project will be implemented in urban and Peri urban centers in the district.
The project will target
1. Low income households with a monthly income of 250 to 600ugx monthly.
2. Parents aged 15 to 50 years old.
3. Households with a size of 4 to 5 people with children aged 3 to 17 years.
Pillars of the work force nutrition include:
1. Nutrition education.
2. Health food at work.
3. Nutrition health checks
4. Breast feeding support.
The Deputy RDC encouraged the team to include religious and cultural leaders on board to sensitise community members on nutrition guidelines and further sensitise parents to feed their children on nutrition.
