Meeting on policy dialogue financing in local government.

A team from the Ministry of local Government held a meeting with the District leadership on policy Dialogue in financing local Governments.

Local government Finance Commission is an agency of Government which was established under the constitution to advise the President on all matters concerning finances of the Local Governments.

The main objective is to identify financial challenges local governments are facing in the whole country.

The key areas include:

To render advise to local governments on matters concerning revenue collection and budgeting since government is financially constrained.

To monitor the 1 billion funds for road maintenance that was sent to local governments.

To give skills such that more revenue is realised.

The technical team raised challenges of the IRAS system and lack of gadgets to ease their work.

The secretary LGFC said government will provide 10 billion shillings next FY to local governments for monitoring and supervision of PDM programs.

The Commissioner requested the District chairperson to embrace and monitor IRAS since its here to stay.

They said the Commission is also planning sensitization measures on the IRAS system using talk shows, Television, News papers etc

The Chairperson LCV highlighted the need for continuous sensitisation on IRAS and scarcity of health workers in health facilities and drugs.
