Technical Services

Mandate

To construct, maintain and manage relable, safe and efficient district infrastructure systems and equipment to ensure efficient and effective delivery of services to the benefiting communities to enable and accelerate sustainable local economic development in the district. This Department encompasses the following sectors;

  1. Roads sector
  2. Works sector
  3. Water sector
  4. Housing / Building and Construction sector

ROAD SECTOR

This sector is responsible for planning and supervising the maintenance works of the district roads, consolidating community access roads and urban roads priotized by the sub agents (sub counties nad town council) and supervises the maintenance of community access roads through the road gang system.

This FY 2014/15, the interventions in the roads sector will be as follows;

  • Periodic Maintenance of 21.1 Km
  •  Routine mechanized maintenance of 43.3 Km of District roads
  •  Routine maintenance of 314 Km of District roads
  • Community Access roads – 122Km
  • Urban roads -65 Km

WATER SECTOR :

The sector is responsible for development and maintenance of water supply systems in the District. The management of the developed water sources is the responsibility of the benefiting communities through water user committees (WUCs) in case of point water sources in Rural areas while piped water supply systems in Urban or Rural Growth Centres  (RGCs) are managed by private operators through water Board for the scheme.

The overall District water coverage is 59% with functionality of 82%. The rural water coverage is 56% with 85% fuinctionality while the urban water coverage is 77% with 80% functionality.
