Overview of departments

The directorate of health care in the district is headed by the District Health Officer Dr Matovu Ahmed and it consists of the following departments;

1.Health education

2.Health Management Information

3.Health Inspectorate

4.Vector Control

5.Drug Inspection

6.TB/Leprosy control

7.Cold Chain management

Mission Statement

The mission of the health sector is to make a contribution to the wellbeing of the people, that is to say, expanded economic growth, increased social development and poverty eradication.

Goal

The overall goal is the attainment of a good standard of health by all people in the district in order to promote a healthy and productive life.

Objectives

The main objective of the health department for FY 2015/2016 will include among others the entrenchment of effective leadership and management system for the health department to respond to health issues, reduction of new HIV infections in our general population, improvement of survival and quality of life for people infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.

This is to be attained through universal delivery of the Uganda National Minimum Health Care Package (UNMHCP) as recommended by the Ministry of Health.

The mandate of the district Health Office is to;

  • Planning, coordinating and directing health service delivery in the district with emphasis on the Minimum health care package
  • Carry out support supervision and mentoring of health workers in lower health units to ensure effective and efficient implementation of health service delivery
  • Interpreting of national policies and advising the district council on health matters.
  • Managing and accounting for financial and physical resources of the department
  • Monitoring and evaluation of health programmes in the district
  • Management of the human resources for health
  • Coordination and harmonization of health service delivery between the local government and the different Non – governmental organizations
  • Mobilization of resources for health service delivery
  • Responsible for the updating of Health Information Management Systems.
  • Production of health infrastructure development plans for the district.
