Hon Minister of State for Primary Health Care presided over the International Self Care Day in Kayunga District.
Kayunga District commemorated the International Self Care Awareness day under the theme "self care for health and well - being."
The ceremony was attended by Hon Nsanja Patrick, Ministry of health officials, CAOs, RDCs, LCV Chairpersons from neighboring Districts, Director KRRH, District leaders, political leaders among others.
The ceremony was officiated by Hon Minister of State for Primary Health Care Margret Muhangi who highlighted that this day gives opportunity to people to accept self awareness and self management to advance primary health care.
"If you stay in a clean environment, eat healthy food, wash your clothes properly, you can leave for a very long time".said the minister.
She emphasized that 75% of the disease they treat are preventable but self care is the only way to solve the problem.
She appreciated that children are the future of tomorrow and out of 46 million people in Uganda, half are children and below 17 years.
She discouraged them from eating chips,chicken and alcohol since it only builds diseases in their Bodies and confuses their minds.
She advised them to always eat greens, cassava, fruits, potatoes, egg plants etc.
She further instructed them to inform their parents about the malaria vaccine that is under way which is expected to kick malaria out of the country.
The Minister advised masses to make use of health facilities in their localities instead of burdening the regional referral hospital.
She preached against abscondment on duties by health workers and instructed the CAOs and DHOs to always supervise them since they have not improved at all yet their salaries were enhanced.
Hon Nsanja Patrick Called for a collective fight against corruption in all entities and encouraged people to always donate blood to save lives of our dear ones.
The DHO applauded all partners supporting the District most especially MUWRP, Marie stopes, Uganda Red Cross, living goods, Banga Afaayo, Centenary Bank, Stanbic Bank etc.
The Chairperson LCV thanked "water for people" for extending latrines to schools and health facilities in the District.
He also requested the Hon minister to consider payment of VHTs who work tirelessly with no payments most especially during the cholera outbreak and yellow fever campaign.
The chief Guest further handed over the Trophy to Kayunga District Netball team that defeated the team from
Ministry of Health.
