The Office of the RDC held an environmental management meeting with members of the Natural resources department and Health inspectors at the Rdc's office.

 

Kayunga District has experienced serious encroachment on fragile eco systems such as forests, wetlands and river banks.

 

The meeting was aimed at ensuring proper management of these resources to mitigate the impact caused by encroachment.

 

Challenges included.

 

1. Political interference

2. Land tenure.

3. Lack of a district physical development plan.

4. Encroachment by the government institutions like prison.

 

Action plans:

 

1. Environment officer to send notices of wetland safeguard to encroachers.

2. The DNRO should write to the Rdc requesting for a security personnel to aid in enforcement.

 

3. CAO's office to write to all LCI chairpersons to desist from writing sales agreements in wetlands.

4. Rdc's office to hold a meeting with residents of Musamya wetland.

5. DNRO to write to Ministry of lands to gazette nazigo forest reserve.

6. Develop a district physical development plan proposal.

7. Technical team to always involve politicians when sensitising community members.

8. Technical team to have accurate statistical data on area coverage of wetlands and forests.
